Siren | Batch File Renaming Freeware
October 4th, 2009 | Posted in » File Management | by HotutBatch file renaming is very useful to organize your huge collection of files (especially pictures) in a nice-looking manner. For example, you probably have a hundred amazing wallpapers like cat.jpg, dog.png and etc in a folder, and you would probably like them appearing with dimensions like cat_1024×768.jpg, dog_1600×1200.png and etc to be more informative. And you probably have a thousand photos of your favorite star in a folder but their file names are too long or have confusing words, and you would probably change them as simple as name_001.jpg, name_002.jpg and etc for better looking. So here I’m very glad to recommend a 100% clean and powerful freeware called Siren, developed by Scarabée Software, for your batch file renaming at ease. It uses Expressions with various parameters for many advanced batch renaming, e.g. “%n.%e” referring to “the selection number.the name extension” like 001.jpg, 002.jpg and etc. I’ve happily used Siren to sort up my stuffs for years.
Siren is as light as 812 KB size in the latest version 2.0. It doesn’t need any installation. After download it from its official website http://www.scarabee-software.net/, just extract it to anywhere you like and you’ll be able to quickly launch it by adding a shortcut on your Desktop or Quick Launch bar. Press F1 after run it and you’ll see a full list of the parameters for wise use in Expression field. And you’re also advised to check “Start in Explorer’s current directory” box in General tab of Options of File menu of Siren and set up the Folders Options in Tools menu of Explorer to display the current path in the title bar as it requires. Doing so will save a lot of time with Siren.
