Siren | Batch File Renaming Freeware

Batch file renaming is very useful to organize your huge collection of files (especially pictures) in a nice-looking manner. For example, you probably have a hundred amazing wallpapers like cat.jpg, dog.png and etc in a folder, and you would probably like them appearing with dimensions like cat_1024×768.jpg, dog_1600×1200.png and etc to be more informative. And you probably have a thousand photos of your favorite star in a folder but their file names are too long or have confusing words, and you would probably change them as simple as name_001.jpg, name_002.jpg and etc for better looking. So here I’m very glad to recommend a 100% clean and powerful freeware called Siren, developed by Scarabée Software, for your batch file renaming at ease. It uses Expressions with various parameters for many advanced batch renaming, e.g. “%n.%e” referring to “the selection number.the name extension” like 001.jpg, 002.jpg and etc. I’ve happily used Siren to sort up my stuffs for years.

Unlocker | Breaking the Lock of Explorer

It’s very annoying that we sometimes can’t delete a certain file or folder in our own computers because it’s locked somehow. This often happens with the big files being accessed by Windows Explorer associated with some programs like Windows Media Player, anti-virus software and etc at background. And it’s weird that in the Windows cache folder we can’t copy away the .FLV formatted files cached for the videos when we visit a video website like YouTube. In short, some non-system files in our own computers may be locked by the damned Explorer and we can’t move or delete them to save space until we restart the computer. Fortunately, Unlocker, 100% free and clean, is exactly a great solution to break the damned lock. I have been using it happily for years.

Typing Tutor | 128K Classic Typing Test Software since 1983

Many people, probably including you, have lost much time because of slow typing on keyboard, while they have something great in their mind and feel eager to write by computer to share with many people quickly. Here I’m glad to recommend the oldest antique kept in my hard disk for decades, Typing Tutor (TT), an excellent typing test software developed by Kriya Systems Inc since 1983, in the super outdated DOS platform. Believe it or not, it’s just in size of 128 KB and it’s still completely working under the Command Prompt of Windows XP in full screen mode. Except step-by-step tutorials and trainings, it also includes an interesting game called Letter Invader and you’ll fall addictive in challenging your typing speed with it. Don’t forget this plain-looking tiny kid when you idle, and you’ll improve a lot with pleasure.
